Hello ABC Family,
When going through any kind of suffering or hardship, it’s difficult to avoid self-concentration. The primary questions we start asking are: “Will I be OK? Will I make it? How am I going to get through this?” Hard times drive us into self-preoccupation. This creates more problems for us because self-concentration tends to generate anxiety and anger. But there are practical outward-facing steps we can take to help us get outside of ourselves.
When we give, we are saying, “I want you to be OK. I want you to make it. I want to help you get through this.” This is an unprecedented opportunity to practice radical generosity. At Alliance Bible Church, there are two good places to give. The first is our Benevolence Fund. We’re going to see an uptick in families needing financial assistance. This fund provides that support (click here if you are needing care & support). Second, the General Fund. All ABC ministries, facilities, and staff are sustained by gifts you make to the General Fund. Practicing radical generosity during this time is a critical outward-facing step we all can take in the fight against self-concentration.
You can still go outside for walks! Get some fresh air. Enjoy nature. Pack this activity with purpose by going on a prayer walk through your neighborhood. Pray for the families inside each home you pass. Pray God would use this time in their lives to renew their interest in the things of Jesus.
Here’s a challenge to consider. Check-in with three of your neighbors. Ask them two questions: How are you doing? Is there anything I can do for you? There’s no time like the present to demonstrate love and care for those God providentially put next door to us.
Don’t forget to join us online each Sunday morning for worship. I’m particularly excited about this Sunday’s text and topic. It’s all about a party. Hope you and your family are able to participate with us.
Journeying with you,
