Bookkeeper

I was born and raised on a farm in upper Michigan in a hometown so small that you better not blink while passing by on the highway or you’ll miss it. We didn’t have many businesses or buildings but, like many small towns, our church stood proudly at the center. My family attended that church every Sunday and at an early age I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. In addition to church gatherings, I attended Lake Lundgren Bible Camp most summers. Whether I was a camper or a counselor, I was always involved in ministry, which I believe has led to my lifelong involvement in the church.

In my early twenties, I married my high school sweetheart, Dick, and we lived in several different towns in Wisconsin. In each new place, we made a home with a new church family, and many of the friends we met along the way remain some of our dearest. In 1990, we settled in Baraboo where we remained for the next twenty-seven years while raising our two daughters, Johanna and Emmalee. I spent most of those early years working as the Music Minister of our church. However, as my girls got older, I decided to resign my position and go back to school for bookkeeping. With my new skills in hand, I was able to work for several small business and churches, which allowed me the flexibility to be with my kids and drive them to their constant concerts and track meets.

About five years ago, we moved to Port Washington. At that time, we had become empty nesters and were looking for a change. When my husband secured a new accounting position in the area, we knew it was meant to be. It was a big change after living in one place for so long, but it has been such a blessing. We live close to our daughters and are living vicariously through them. I found Alliance Bible Church after visiting several churches in the area, and I felt in my heart that this is where I wanted to attend. It was merely a coincidence that they also needed a bookkeeper – a position I happened to be looking for in my new city.

In addition to spending time with my children, I have two main hobbies: sewing and gardening. In the summer, you can almost always find me digging in the dirt, and in the winter, I hunker down and put together quilts or gifts for friends. I even sew for a non-profit organization called Days4Girls which keeps me busy between projects.

Overall, I am very thankful for this church and the friendships I have been able to make. I love working with the great staff here and hope to make memories for many years to come.
